I am a loud person. I come from a lineage of loud people. Being loud is not something I can control actively. I am super conscious of the fact that I am loud but there’s not much I can really do about it.

I’m just naturally loud. You know, just like some people are naturally quiet.

Over the last few years, I have come to realise that there are many assumptions made about loud people.

1. Loud doesn’t actually mean someone is an extrovert

Loud doesn’t actually mean someone is an extrovert. In fact, quite the contrary. Loud people can be introverts. Loud people can be shy. It really depends on the individual.

2. Loud is not a sign of confidence

Loud is not a sign of confidence or strength at all. It’s most cases it’s actually a sign of fear, insecurity and vulnerability. Loud people often hide behind loudness because they think it makes them appear confident. Wolves in sheep clothing kind of thing.

3. Being loud can be a sign that someone isn’t that happy

Oftentimes, loud people are not actually that happy. They’re just constantly on the lookout for approval or appreciation. It’s a sad thing. People who are truly confident will never have to be loud to get attention.

4. Loud is annoying as hell to everyone else and yes we know that…

However, we’re often so busy faking confidence and having fun that we’re not aware of how annoying we can be. It’s a bit like having a friend who insists on telling you every single story restarting from the beginning each time so you won’t forget any details… again and again and again.

5. Being loud typically evolves from your up-bringing

I grew up in a family of immigrants and they’re loud! In some families, loudness is actually celebrated as a symbol of strength and being proud of your roots. However, it’s important to note that every loud person has a story behind their loudness and there is usually a reason why they are as loud as they are.
