How Moving to Byron Bay Changed My Life

Ok. So we didn’t really end up in Byron Bay.

My family landed somewhere about 30 mins away in a town called Alstonville.

Initially, when we first moved to the Northern Rivers region we were keen to be somewhere in the Byron Shire. Whether it was actually in Byron Bay or surrounding towns like Mullumbimby, Bangalow or Brunswick Heads.

Unfortunately, not everything always goes to plan. Plus it’s become a rather expensive area to both buy or rent. For perspective, my family comes from inner-city Melbourne, one of the priciest towns in Australia, let alone the world. So that’s saying something about the real estate affordability of the area.

Our family does really enjoy here in the Byron Bay region. I’m not quite sure what it is. It’s a vibe thing predominantly. The people are chill and really friendly. The beaches are amazing. There’s plenty of great food and things to see and do are abundant. Things are just slower.

We fell in love with the area about 9 years ago on a holiday with friends. Since that time we had always talked about living here one day. So at the start of 2021, we packed up our things and took the drive north to start a new chapter of our lives in the region.

The evolving reputation of Byron Bay
