It’s almost like growth was never part of a marketers arsenal previous to some Silicon Valley w@nker decided to make it a “thing”.
A marketer by nature is a professional trade whose purpose is technically to be part of the growth of the business they work for.
We’re not just about pretty pictures and catchy headlines ya know!
Where does growth happen? Pretty much across the whole business.
- Marketing = driving brand awareness and commercial opportunity.
- Sales = closing commercial opportunity.
- Delivery/customer service = delighting opportunity to create more.
All the above is part of growing a business.
From what I can tell when I look at PDs of a growth marker. It is someone who has a combination of product, marketing and sales skills. An intersection of all facets.
But guess what. That is marketing. We do that already. Well, at least the good ones do.
Where did the term growth marketing come from?
Ok, I’ll admit it. I’ve read the book Hacking Growth a book written by Sean Ellis who coined the term “growth hacking” in around 2010.
